The Matrix

Have you ever had a dream that seemed so real, you questioned if you was still dreaming?  What if the dream you were dreaming was merely a dream within a dream! What if, someone told you that your whole world was simply a visualization of what we are programed to believe?  This paper is based on my interpretation of the movie, The Matrix and understanding reality and imagination. As humans our perception on things dictates our understanding and view on certain situations. In this paper you will read about free will of imagination, and the reality of what is imbedded within our minds. I will also explain the decisions we make and the decisions that are made for us.  I will use information from sources such as the movie The Matrix, and Kant’s theory of free will and many others.
In the movie The Matrix, when Neo meets Trinity it seems so real, it seem as if he was actually awake, but then Neo woke up in his bed, this would imply that Neo was dreaming. After this Neo went to work, and eventually got arrested by agent Smith. When Neo was in the police station he says,” I know my rights. I want my phone call.” (Neo 24).  The agent says to Neo, ”what good is a phone call  if you are unable to speak”(Agent Smith 24). And like magic, Neo’s mouth was mended together like bricks and concrete upon a four story building. Would this imply that Neo was dreaming?  Let’s remember Neo had just gotten out of bed and went to work. So, was Neo still dreaming? In the movie Morpheus offered Neo an alternative towards two different worlds. A choice of staying within the walls of imagination or waking up in his bed like nothing had ever taken place.  “This is your last chance Morpheus says, stoically after this there is no turning back. You take the blue pill the story ends, you wake up in your bed, and you believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill you stay in wonderland, and I will show you how deep the rabbit hole goes”. Morpheus also asked Neo, what if he had a dream that was so real, and never woke up, how he would know if he was still sleeping! (Morpheus 36).

Neo took the red pill and started the process of living in the real world. This real world exist outside the virtual reality, this reality is design and controlled by the computer. Neo experienced a life inside a pod full of liquid; he had these plugs imbedded in his neck, back and his upper torso. As he stood up, he saw an entire city of theses pods, some with full grown adults and others with infants, eating the fluid through the tubes for survival. Likewise, in reality the process of a woman given birth holds and protects a child in the embryo. Imagine living in a world that was programmed inside of our brain, living in a world that was created to keep us trapped. What if we aren’t really here, what if we are sleeping inside of a pod in cave in the bottom of a crater in the depths of the abyss?
According to the movie, The Matrix our planet is merely a virtual simulation design to keep us confused, but yet comfortable to deal and cope in society. This program is designed to keep us engulfed within our understanding of our materialistic wants.  According to Kant in the documentary Philosophy and The Matrix, philosophy is all around us. In our society it is engulfed with a mental understanding of self belief. This documentary also talks about how The Matrix was perfect, kind of like the biblical term, the Garden of Eden.  When Morpheus showed Neo how The Matrix world looked like, ironically the world was a perfect picture of the one Neo remembered through his memory.  Morpheus then showed Neo a picture of the real world, a world with no computer imaging, no touch ups, and no enhancements. Shockingly the world was desolate, there was no sun, it was cold, dark, and the clouds hovered over like a black storm striking with vengeance, the thunder struck powerful and consistent. There were no people; it was just a world of darkness!
Gunkel’s article, The Virtual Dialectic speaks about,” the virtual reality, cyberspace and different types of computers”. He agrees strongly about the possibilities pertaining to free will, and how we perceive through our environment.  In comparison with the movie, Neo went to meet the Oracle, and watched a young child bend a solid steel spoon. Neo is bewildered, the child sensed Neo’s expression, and explained to Neo the purpose of understanding. The child told Neo, the spoon wasn’t really there, and he explained how he shouldn’t look at it as a solid, look at it for what it really is; keep it in its original place.
Neo was trying to bend the spoon with his mind; the child reminded him not to look at the spoon as a solid.  He informed Neo that he wasn’t bending the spoon, but in reality, he was bending himself. When Neo applied this rule, like a magic show at the Trump Plaza the spoon started to bend. The Oracle tells Neo that he is the one, and that he had the free will to do anything he wanted to do, he had a choice, and always choose wisely. .
In the end of the movie Neo had to make a choice, leave Morpheus, or go back to the ship. Because Neo is the one, or believes he’s the one, he went to save Morpheus. After a heroic helicopter rescue, Neo was faced with a multitude of agents. He had fought Morpheus many times, but these were all practice simulations. When Neo would hit or kill an agent, the agent would just body shift to another human. The agent would always be able to reappear through a new person. Neo eventually was shot, and was believed to be dead, after Trinity talked to him from the ship, he finally woke up. He woke up believing that he was the “only” one. He kills the agents whenever he wanted to. He was faster and stronger than all the agents; Neo had mastered his Imagination of reality!
In conclusion, are we living in a world that is through our imagination of understanding, or are we living in a world that is the reality of someone else’s, or something else! It has become clear to me that we can use our minds for anything. The way that we perceive things is because of the things that are depicted in our society. In the movie, The Matrix imagination and reality has given me a vivid view on how things are seen.

ADAPTATION!!!!!!

This was a very interesting movie. In the beginning of the movie I was really not interested because, it looked boring. The way the plot was the earth with nothing on it volcanoes, plants, communities and homes being built, and life was becoming a reality. This movie took place in New York and also some of Florida. The main characters in this movie are Charles and Donald who are twin brothers both played by the actor Nicolas Cage. John a man who is very interested in a special type of orchid flower, and Susan a reporter from the New Yorker.
In this movie, Charles is a screen writer and is trying to produce a movie for a book that has been written by Susan. Donald his brother who lives with him wants to be like him and produce movies. Suzan has written a book about the orchid flower and comes to meet John who researches about plants and has seen a ghost orchid flower before. They all share their experiences throughout the movie. Charles is so over whelmed with everything going on around him that he finds it difficult to produce the movie. So, he goes to find the writer of the book, which is Susan and comes to find out that things don’t always look as they appear. She is having an affair and isn’t loyal to her husband. Susan and John are using the plant to get high. Charles and Donald come to find these things out on the search for Susan the reporter. Once the truth is out in the open Susan wants to kill Charles. Going on an wild goose chase on the roads of Florida.
This movie ends up sadly with the death of John being eaten by a crocodile, and Donald being flown out of a car window. This movie can be compared to imagination and reality in several ways by the fact that this special ghost orchid flower grown out of dirt was used to help people fantasize and life. How the characters imagined living in fantasy worlds. And not realizing the reality of being caught for having secret affairs. Like there are always conscious for the things we do in life and, also remember that for every action there is always a reaction.

IF I TOLD HIM!!!!!

At first while reading this poem I said to myself what is the moral of this. Each classmate had to read a line. And there wasn’t not rhythm ton the poem. It started to become a tongue twister for some people. But when we heard the poem it sounds like if I was in the gym. Listening to the words and the beat makes a big difference in this work of art to me. This was a very nice poem. But the words being repeated are cool to make a song. So if she could have told him would she really tell him. Interesting and very creative I thought this poem was.

Moreau summary ch.5

In chapter 5 of “The Island of Dr. Moreau” written, by H.G. Wells, the character Edward Prendick had just woke up from recovery from the being on an Island and being deserted for a while without food and water. When Edward had woke up robbing his eyes. He was very doubtful of his where he was.  The captain had an attitude and was yelling throughout this chapter. The sailors had a task to unshipping packages and caged animals. He was told by the captain to walk off the boat. The captain was angry and treated Edward Prendick really bad. Montgomery looked shock and confused on why the Captain was acting so mean. The captain continued to go on saying that the boat isn’t for animals referring to Edward Prendick as some type of animal. Predict continued to do what the captain had told him to do. After all the work had been done he started to feel weak again. After all the work he had done he was very hungry and a lack of blood-corpuscles took his entire man hood from him. After all that Edward was forced to walk the plank by the captain who didn’t want him on the ship.

Art painting descripition.hup107 assignment

The setting in this drawing to me looks like four men fighting and a dog trying to help. Their faces are all covered up like if their hiding from something. The first man that I would describe is the black man that is next to the dog in the front with the green pants on one knee holding his hands up on guard striking the man across from him who is white with a pot on his head covering his face with a guard protecting his face on the left side wearing a red shirt that has been thrown on the right side. His boot is under his foot while the third guy is laying down protecting his face from harm’s way with a yellow shirt on and blue jeans. He looks as if his arm is broke the way he is positioned on the ground holding a knife in his hand that looks broken. However, the fourth man also in yellow but mustard yellow looks like the strongest man with big bold shoulders. With a red covering over his head holding a white covering over the third guy’s head with a piece of boarder that has been taken up from somewhere. The back ground in this portrait looks like an old baseball field. With an old bar or store in the background with the red and white lines. The wood in the back grounds could symbolize modern time due to the stairs that are on the lower left of the drawing. Also by the way the weapon where made usually a knife is sharp and isn’t made out of wood. This portrait is simple guys that are symbolizing fighting and/or a war and people in today’s society don’t use pots and or sheets to cover their face. So, this drawing had to be done in memory of something many years ago. Philip Guston (June 27, 1913- June, 7, 1980) a very well-known artist who is famous for his art work. This art work titled Gladiators. Is a drawing that was made to symbolize a time when the KKK was around or an era that had occurred many years.
This work of art makes me feel sad because I look at the portrait and think about stories that I have heard over the years about that era when there where blacks and whites fighting against one another and there wasn’t any unity between people and every one was equal to each other so that kind of makes me feel sad that it took many years of fighting and persistence for people to get equal rights and still today things aren’t just between certain cultures.

A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE

My thesis statement for this essay would have to be: how lies and honesty between two main characters  Blanche and Stanley attitudes are similar and differ. They both have sexual desires. They both have different personalities/motives throughout the play. Stanley is a controlling, aggressive, abusive guy who likes to drink. In the play he shows a lot of aggression. When Blanches trunk arrives Stanley shows aggression when he says, ”look at these feathers and furs that she comes here to preen herself in” (p.23).  Thinking Blanche has comes to visit and has money to give to Stella. When in reality she has nothing she has lost everything. This bothered Stella because, she hasn’t seen a sister in a long time and he questions her being there. Stanley trying to take control of the situation by brings up the” Napoleonic Code.” (p.22). Stanley shows abusiveness when he’s playing poker and things get out of hand and he hits Stella. Blanche is a liar and a flirt. In the play I feel that Blanche is a liar because when she has a drink with Stella. Blanche says” No, one’s my limit.”(p.12). Stanley asks her if she wants to have a shot and Blanche says,” No I rarely touch it”(p.18). Meanwhile later on in the play she has more drinks.  She begins to flirt with Stanley who is her sister’s husband. (p.26). Blanche also flirts with Mitch who is a friend of Stanley while the poker game is going on.

·         Blanche likes to flirt.
·         Stanley does not like Blanche.
·         Blanche is afraid that Stanley might blow her up.
·         Stanley gets very aggressive in the play towards his wife, Blanche, and his friends.
·         Blanche has a very unclean background.
·         Blanche runs away\ denies her problems.
·         Stanley proves that Blanche is a liar and says that she has to leave his house.
·         Stanley is always away from home
·         Stanley and Blanche have different motives.
·         The characters Blanch and Stanley are two people that played in a play called, “A streetcar named desire.”
·         Blanche and Stanley don’t like each other.
·          Blanche likes to tell lies and make up her own stories using her imagination.
·          Stanley is a straight forward type of guy.
·          They both are like to drink.
·          Blanche is Stanley’s wife sister.
·         Stanley likes to play poker and go bowling.

"A Darwinian Theory Of Beauty." By: Dennis Dutton

I agree with what Dennis is saying about beauty. We all individually have our different views of what beauty is to us. Dennis spoke about Charles Darwinian’s theory. Different types of cultures and people. How things begin to develop in our minds as we develop. Dennis also spoke about natural selection things that we like and enjoy doing.  I enjoyed what Dennis was saying. It was very interesting to me. Especially when he said, ”Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”Everyone finds beauty in different things. This is a girt that we all have pasted down to us generation after generation. Watching this video gave me the opportunity to see things differently and have a different perspective on the way I see things.

MY GOALS!!!!!!

My goal for the next three months is to quit smoking. This is important to me for my future. It has been a very hard challenge for me, seeing that I am always stressed. Over the years smoking has helped me to deal with my stress, or so I thought. In my essay I’m going to discuss why it is important for me to quit smoking also, how smoking has affected me negatively, and how I’m going to quit smoking.
Over the years I have seen how smoking has affected me. Smoking has made it hard for me to do certain activities and focus in school. My breathing has also changed which has caused running, exercising, and playing sports to be difficult for me because, I smoke I really don’t enjoy the activities that I use to do. I now know I need to quit more than ever. The smoke gets in my clothes, hair, and skin. However, it still has taken me some time to realize that smoking is just wrong! While I’m at school I find it difficult not to smoke, because of the pressure that I deal with in class. The hours are too long and I sometimes get bored. Instead of going out to smoke a cigarette on my break, I will do something constructive, such as; looking over my notes, writing, reading, talking with a class mate or just taking a walk.
Being healthier is more important to me, so that I can be a good example for my son. I have an eight year old son who gives me a hard time. I’m running to his school all the time because of his fighting and/ or being suspended. When I get phone calls or come home to hear about the negativity, I get overwhelmed and I smoke. But, I’m not giving up on him because, that’s my baby and I love him so much. Due to this stress I find it hard to quit smoking. My son always asks me, “Mom, when are you going to stop smoking?” Sometimes I don’t even know how to respond, but I know that it affects him in a bad way. So I’m going to talk to him more regularly and try to understand him instead of smoking.
There have been challenges that I have faced since, I’ve tried to quit smoking. My associates have played a major part in this discussion. I’m a strong believer in God. The Bible says,” bad association spoils useful habits.”Also being around people that smoke influences me to want to smoke because, I stand there and converse with them and after a while I want to smoke too. So, if I ask them not to smoke around me, I think it would be easier for me to quit smoking.  I feel if I keep positive people in my circle I would be able to be positive and think positive as well. Also I try to carry less money with me all the time so that I won’t be tempted to buy cigarettes.
So if I continue to be strong and positive I will be successful in completing my goal. I would have a long and healthier life. That’s why I feel that it is very important for me to complete this goal but first I need to be able to address the three things that trigger my smoking; my son, my boredom with school, and my smoking friends. I don’t want to lose my life due to smoking. I begin to question myself. “Why am I killing myself slowly?” If I can do this I would have a long and healthier life. I would like to make this goal be more of a reality to me than just simply a dream.

Chuck Close is a famous Artist. His paintinngs are unique. He made paintings out of small squares and circles. The colors he used in his painting seem realistic his painting where so orginal. He used realism in his paintings. He had his own personal style. However, I feel that he had a vivid imagination to create such amazing work while putting a small piece of a shape together to create a master piece.I would of never thought of anything like that. He is also known as one of the most influential figurative painters in our time.
